Dirt cheap netbooks on sale in China
Reporters aren't known for their sums, but I'll tip my hat to the Beijing Evening News guy who crunched the numbers on netbooks being sold by China Mobile. He figures the price is about RMB688 -- about the same as a cheap night out in Shanghai.
The highest subsidy China Mobile is willing to fork out is RMB2100 (RMB1500 for data plus RMB600 for voice). A Haier netbook will set you back RMB3288, and that includes the TD module which reportedly sells for RMB500. So, depending on your viewpoint, you're getting the netbook for either RMB1188 or about RMB688 if you don't include the cost of the cellular TD module.
Not a bad deal at all.
